Ethernet and Fibre Channel Gateways
High performance computing clusters continue to grow in size and performance in order to meet application requirements. The increased deployment of multi-core processors, blade servers and server virtualization, all of which increase server efficiency, have in turn created significant bottlenecks on the I/O component of the cluster. Traditional architectures relied on separate networks for access to LAN and storage, an approach which is not only inefficient in terms of performance, but also expensive and difficult to manage.
Voltaire’s intelligent Ethernet and Fibre Channel Gateways enable I/O virtualization with seamless connectivity between server clusters, Fibre Channel SANs, NAS appliances and TCP/IP networks (LANs). All storage and networking traffic is carried over high performance InfiniBand links resulting in one high performance, simple to manage, shared network. Under this new architecture, every server node now has high performance connectivity to all of the storage and network resources, while being physically connected with a single network interface (HCA).
